Dairy farmers in Rukum West have received NPR 1.5 million in subsidies for milk production. In the last fiscal year, 477 farmers benefited from this support.
The Livestock Hospital and Animal Services Office distributed the subsidy at a rate of NPR 5 per liter. The subsidy covered the period from last year’s Saun (July-August) to Falgun (February-March), according to the acting chief of the office, Sher Bahadur Khadka. However, he mentioned that the subsidy for the period from Falgun to Asar (March-June) could not be distributed due to a budget shortfall. Approximately 400 farmers are still awaiting their subsidies.
Acting Chief Khadka noted that due to the budget constraints, the applications from farmers have been left pending, and it is unlikely that the remaining subsidies will be distributed. By Falgun, 477 farmers from four local levels in the district had received a total of NPR 1.5 million in subsidies.
According to Khadka, 56 farmers from Musikot Municipality, 334 from Tribeni Rural Municipality, 71 from Sanibheri Rural Municipality, and 16 from Bafikot Rural Municipality received the subsidies.
The Karnali Province government launched this subsidy program to increase milk production and promote self-sufficiency by supporting dairy farmers. Every year, dairy farmers across all districts of the province receive these subsidies.
